In Loving Memory of Penny MacDonald
July 31, 1948 – April 14, 2025
Penny MacDonald, a woman as warm and generous as her German chocolate cake, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of quick wit, love, and unwavering loyalty.
Born on July 31, 1948, in Fargo, North Dakota, Penny grew up with her mom and four sisters in Fargo and Wheatland. She spent time working at local landmarks like The Gaslight Lounge, The Speak Easy, and the Treetop Lounge—places where her big heart and work ethic made her unforgettable.
Penny’s life took an unexpected but beautiful turn when she joined the United States Air Force. It was there she met her wife Teresa Wilson—the love of her life and partner for all the years that followed. After retiring from military service, the two made their home in Clearfield, Utah, where they lived in sight of the mountains they loved so much.
Penny was happiest surrounded by friends, around a campfire, or at a casino. Her faithful little dog, Jasper, never left her side and was her dearest companion.
She was a master in the kitchen, known far and wide among family and friends for her peanut brittle, her broccoli and bacon salad, and her German chocolate cake. Her food was comfort, and it was one of the ways she used to express her love.
To those she loved most, she had a special name—“baby.” It was her way of wrapping you in love with a single word. So we say this now as we say goodbye to her:
We’ll miss you so much, baby. Rest well.
Penny was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Woodruff Halland, her half-sister Tammy Halland, and her dear wife Teresa Wilson.
She is survived by her son, Steven Ouren (John Hallberg); sister Mara (Warren) Solberg of Wild Rice, ND; sister Pamela Lindemann of Fargo, ND; and Dawn (Darryl) Heiser of Page, ND; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Burial will be at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fargo at a later date.
