MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO WCCO) – Democratic U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar has decided to run for reelection to the House rather than pursue a bid for the seat of retiring U.S. Senator Tina Smith.
Omar was one of many Democrats seen as a potential candidate for the open seat.
Omar said at a time when our rights are under attack, it is more important than ever to fight back against the chaos, corruption, and callousness of the Trump administration.
Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan and former Senate Minority Leader Melisa López Franzen plan to seek the Democratic nomination for Smith’s seat.
