ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) โ Black bears in Minnesota are beginning to emerge from their winter dens.
The DNR advises residents to bring in their bird feeders to prevent them from being broken or taken by bears. After hibernating for six months, the bears eat on plants, leftover acorns, and fruit until their digestive systems fully adjust.
The DNR estimates that Minnesota has between 13,000 and 18,000 black bears. These bears have been expanding their territory to the south and west, and they have been seen near St. Cloud, the Twin Cities, and Rochester.
