Ariel Olson addresses the Dilworth, Minn. City Council
DILWORTH, Minn. (KFGO/KVRR) — Ariel Olson is taking on the rising cost of eggs and city hall all at the same time, and she’s only 10.
The Dilworth girl used the public comment period during Monday’s City Council meeting to try to get support for backyard chickens. She presented four key reasons why it would benefit the community, including a stable and safe food source, food quality, cost, and education.
Olson even presented guidelines followed by surrounding cities that allow backyard chickens – like Moorhead and Fargo. She even has a Change.org petition which already has 150 signatures.
“I urge the council to consider this petition and allow our community the same opportunity that neighboring cities already enjoy,” Olson told the council.
Current Dilworth ordinances say chickens and other livestock cannot be kept within city limits other than by certain veterinarians.
