ST. MICHAEL, N.D. (KFGO) – The Spirit Lake Tribal Council now says two people, not three, were killed in a shooting at a home in St. Michael south of Devils Lake Tuesday morning.
The tribe says it has received updated information confirming that two people died. The third victim is in critical condition.
The names of those killed and the name of the man who was arrested have not been released. The suspect was arrested about four hours after the shooting not far from the scene. A woman and a child were killed.
Several local and regional law enforcement agencies responded to the call along with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and FBI.
The Special Agent in Charge of the Minneapolis Field office of the FBI, Alvin M. Winston Sr. released a statement on the shootings Wed. afternoon:
“Yesterday the Spirit Lake Reservation was impacted by a heinous act of violence that took the lives of a woman and child. A third victim suffered life threatening injuries. There are no words strong enough to capture this horrific crime. While we cannot undo the pain and loss inflicted by this senseless violence, we can and will deliver justice. A suspect is now in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing. This was only possible through the strong partnership between the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of North Dakota and tribal, local, state and federal law enforcement,” Wilson said.
