FARGO (KFGO) – A northeast North Dakota man will spend 40 years in federal prison for abuse resulting in the death of a 1-year-old on the Spirit Lake Reservation.
Collin Delorme, 30, pleaded guilty in September to two counts of abuse of the 1-year-old and a separate charge of abuse of another child. He was sentenced in Fargo Wednesday.
In February of 2023, Delorme’s co-defendant, Kenzie Baker, called 9-1-1 saying her 1-year-old was not breathing. The child died at a hospital in Devils Lake.
An autopsy determined the death was the result of neglect and abuse and repeated injuries that went untreated.
Baker admitted that she was aware of swelling for two weeks, but didn’t seek medical care. Delorme claimed that the child was injured when he misjudged a step, slipped and hit the child with a flashlight.
Baker is scheduled to be sentenced later this month.
