ROCHESTER, Minn. – The family of a man who died in the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center in March of 2023 is suing the county and the medical services company that staffs the jail.
The wrongful death lawsuit filed Monday claims deputies and a nurse dismissed 59-year-old Melvin Bush’s stomach issue as a sign of drug withdrawal. It was later determined that the inmate died from a perforated ulcer.
The suit also claims that staff checked on Bush several times but never adequately assessed him or sought more medical attention.
