MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – A historic building that covers one square block in downtown Minneapolis is now known as The Paul D. Wellstone Federal Building.
Minnesota Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith helped pass the bi-partisan bill renaming the Federal Building in honor of the late Senator Wellstone. They took part in a naming ceremony Tuesday with the Wellstone family and other friends and colleagues.
The building houses the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the National Relations Board, and the Department of State Passport Agency.
Senator Wellstone, his wife, daughter, three staff members, and two pilots died in a plane crash near Eveleth in October of 2002.
