BAGLEY, Minn. (KFGO) – The Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office in northern Minnesota says a woman drowned and a child was hospitalized after separate incidents over the weekend.
Saturday afternoon, deputies were called to Long Lost Lake where 70-year-old Cheryl Breitbach of Ponsford and her husband were swimming off their pontoon. While they were in the water, the pontoon began to drift away and the couple swam after it.
At some point, Breitbach’s husband looked back and saw her face down, floating in the water. He yelled for help and some people responded with their boat, helping the couple back to shore.
Despite life-saving efforts, the woman died.
On Sunday, a child was found unresponsive in a swimming pool at a home south of Bagley.
The child was taken to Sanford Bagley Hospital and then flown to Sanford Hospital in Fargo. The child’s condition hasn’t been released.
