MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) – Thousands from Minnesota’s Catholic community are expected Memorial Day afternoon for what the Archdiocese says is an unprecedented four-and-a-half-mile Eucharistic procession up Summit Avenue from the Mississippi River to the Cathedral of Saint Paul.
Father Tom Margevicius says the Eucharist is “the source and summit of the entire Christian life.”
“We thought, wait a minute, we’re gonna be on Summit Avenue and Minnesota is the source of the Mississippi,” Father Margevicius says.” “So calling this Eucharistic procession Source and Summit is a happy coincidence with what already Minnesota is all about.”
The procession began last Sunday at Lake Itasca, and has now reached the Twin Cities, where many more of the faithful will join it for a short time.
Father Margevicius says it will wind its way through the area for six days, then go into Wisconsin on its way to reach Indiana by July, when three other simultaneous processions will arrive from California, Texas and Connecticut.
