FARGO, N.D. (KNFL/KVRR)–The Fargo Force have not dealt with a ton of adversity throughout the season. After a historic year that saw the team reach a franchise record for wins in a season, the Force swept their series in the second round of playoffs against the Tri-City Storm.
In the Western Conference Finals series with the Sioux City Musketeers, the Force were dealt major adversity. Fargo entered game four down two games to one in the best-of-five series. After a dominating win to force game five (5-0 win), the Force left little doubt who the best team in the USHL is this season.
In Sunday’s game five, the Force scored two goals in the opening three minutes. Mac Swanson netted the game’s first goal 13 seconds in. Merril Steenari added the Force’s second goal on a one-timer assisted by Mac Swanson and Zam Plante.
Leo Gruba added the Force’s third goal in the second period, and Tom Leppa added the finishing touch with an empty-netter in the third.
Hampton Slukynsky was unbeatable in net recording his second shutout in as many games.
The Force defeated Sioux City 4-0 to win the series three games to two and advance to the Clark Cup Finals for the second consecutive season. Fargo will play the Dubuque Fighting Saints, the No. 1 seed in the East. The Fighting Saints are 47-14-3-5 this season and won their two playoff series 3-1, 3-0.
In two games versus Dubuque this season, Fargo won 4-0 and lost 4-3.
