The Rice County Attorney’s Office in southern Minnesota says a truck driver accused of watching Netflix before a crash that killed an Iowa couple last summer has been charged.
55-year-old Billy Grimes, of Lansing, Tennessee, is facing two counts of criminal vehicular homicide and one count of criminal vehicular operation.
Prosecutors say Grimes denied using his phone in the minutes before the crash. The truck’s dash cameras helped determine Grimes was streaming Netflix before and during the crash.
Roadside cameras show the truck passed five signs, including two with flashing lights, in the five miles leading up to the crash. The truck’s cruse control was set between 66 and 67 miles an hour, and there was no evidence that Grimes used the brakes before impact.
