Rain across much of Minnesota resulted in 3 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending April 21, 2024, according to the Minnesota office of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Corn planted was at 8 percent, 9 days ahead of last year and 2 days ahead of the 5-year average. Soybeans planted reached 5 percent, 11 days ahead of last year and 1 week ahead of the 5-year average.
Spring wheat planted was 18 percent with 2 percent emerged. Barley planted was at 12 percent with the crop beginning to emerge at 1 percent. Oats planted was at 29 percent, with 10 percent emerged.
According to North Dakota’s Field Crops Report, spring wheat planted was 7 percent, ahead of 1 percent last year, and near 5 percent for the five-year average. Durum wheat planted was 2 percent, near 1 percent last year, and equal to average. There were 4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA.
Sugarbeets planted was 17 percent, ahead of 2 percent average. Dry edible peas planted was 3 percent, near 1 percent average. Flaxseed planted was 1 percent. Potatoes planted was 9 percent.
