WILLMAR, Minn. – A Twin Cities man has been sentenced to nearly 29 years in prison for the sexual assault of a hotel clerk in central Minnesota.
In Kandiyohi County District Court Thursday, Judge Stephen Wentzell sentenced 33-year-old Ashir Kimbrough of Brooklyn Center. Kimbrough was given credit for 17 days he spent in jail before posting bail. He must register as a sex offender, and he must pay his victim restitution.
After prison, Kimbrough will be on 10 years probation.
Kimbrough earlier pleaded guilty to one of two charges of 1st Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct. He was also charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
During the late night hours on Feb. 26, 2022, Kimbrough checked into The Hampton Inn in Spicer, and followed the desk clerk into a women’s restroom where he forced her to perform a sex act. Kimbrough then fired a gun to scare her before she escaped.
Wentzell said Kimbrough treated the victim with particular cruelty and committed the offenses in a location where the victim had an expectation of privacy.
