FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – North Dakota Tourism wrapped up its annual Travel Industry Conference with the Governor’s Photo Contest and Travel and Tourism Awards in Fargo.
Governor Burgum and Lt. Governor Tammy Miller presented the awards, which recognize efforts by North Dakotans to drive travel and tourism to the state.
The Photo Contest highlighted the best photos showcasing North Dakota as a year-round destination. It featured categories for each of the seasons as well as an overall winner.
Gov. Burgum highlighted the importance of tourism in growing the economy, especially the work of the ND Native Tourism Alliance.
“There’s so much work going on in the five Tribal reservations where we share geography with these sovereign nations. They’re doing amazing work, so much to learn about those that have been in the state for thousands of years. Great things going on,” says Burgum.
The Native Tourism Alliance is currently working on a project to add a Native American Complex to the International Peace Gardens, with the hope that it will host the first World International Peace Pow Wow
