FARGO (KFGO) – The Director of Fargo Cass Public Health plans to retire this summer.
Desi Fleming calls the agency her home and says she is grateful for the time she spent there and the relationships she made.
Fleming started with Fargo Cass Public Health as a public health nurse in 1992. She became the public health nursing manager in 2000 and was promoted to director of nursing in 2008. She says she is most proud of her team’s many initiatives to advance the health of residents across Fargo and Cass County.
“I have felt so very fortunate to be a part of this community and — within my role as a nurse and a leader — to be able to make an impact on the health of many lives. When I took on the role of Director, I never imagined that we would experience a pandemic but I am grateful for the way in which my team responded with credibility and resiliency,” Fleming said. “I can say FCPH became a leader in very uncertain times — partnering with local health systems to meet critical needs throughout the pandemic — all the while standing firm in the face of adversity. Looking back, although physically and emotionally draining, I was grateful to be a part of that community effort.”
Fleming battled cancer during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her last day in office will be July 5.
