I’m going to begin with one simple question: If President Biden, while being President, ordered the assassination of his top rival, Donald Trump, would he be subject to prosecution for murder? Of course the answer is yes. He should be treated no differently than any other individual in this country, because our President is equal to every other person in this country.
But that’s the argument Donald Trump is going up against in the courts and with the American people. Trump is arguing in the DC Federal Appeals Court that he shouldn’t be held to the same level of prosecution as the average American. Because he was President, if we were to order for the murder of Joe Biden, or commit another crime while in office, it wouldn’t matter. He could do any damn thing he wanted and would never be subject to the laws of the land, all the while he’d never have to worry about any vindictive action he might take. An action like inciting a riot on our Capitol, for example.
That is exactly what this case is about. Charges have been filed that Trump, while President, took steps to overthrow the 2020 election (which, I might add, he did). And those charges are being challenged by Trump with the argument that he could overthrow the United States government, had he wanted to. In fact, he could do any damn thing while President as long as he felt like it.
This case needs to get resolved fast. The Appellate Court needs to make sure this case gets to the Supreme Court, where it certainly is heading, well before this Nation decides who our next President is. But we deserve the right to know if our laws apply to every citizen rather than a select few. Don’t forget that a war was fought about this issue. Men died on the battlefield and in freezing temperatures to make sure we didn’t have a monarchy. They gave their lives to make sure all men were created equal, both by their country and Creator. All subject to the same laws of the land, and all subject to the penalties that come with it. The problem is, Trump has never understood that. He has never been treated as an equal.
But my guess is, he’s about to.
Good riding with you,
Joel
