ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – Minnesota’s Department of Labor and Industry said Menards will have to pay back wages and penalties to a woman after an investigation found the company violated the state’s Women’s Economic Security Act.
The violations included deducting pay from the woman 103 times for pumping breast milk during work time, and then suspending her for three days after she filed a complaint asserting her work rights.
Minnesota law requires businesses to allow reasonable paid break time for pumping breast milk.
An agreement between Menards and the Department of Labor and Industries also requires the company to comply with the Women’s Economic Security Act, pay $15,000 in administrative penalties, ensure no other women’s rights were violated within the company, update company policies, and report to the Department of Labor and Industries.
