THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. (KFGO KVRR) – A Thief River Falls has man has been charged with attempted aggravated robbery after police say he threatened to rob and blow up Hugo’s grocery in Thief River Falls. on Dec. 30.
Court documents show 44-year-old Shawn Rud was wearing a mask when he walked into the store and gave the clerk a note demanding money or he would detonate a bomb.
While the clerk looked for a manager, Rud left the store without any money. Police were able to tie him to the crime through surveillance footage of his shoes which matched surveillance of Rud at a bar in November.
They say Rud also called a hotline claiming that he had a gun and was going to shoot himself and was open to the idea of suicide by police.
