WATFORD CITY, N.D. (KFGO) – A 35-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of his mother who died in a fire in northwestern North Dakota.
The McKenzie County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a fire call in September where they found the main door locked. After making their way inside, they found a woman dead and Scott Beane in the bathroom.
Bean, a felon, was detained and later charged for being in possession of a firearm.
An autopsy by the North Dakota Medical Examiner’s Office determined the woman, Beane’s mother, died of burns and inhalation injuries from the fire. An investigation by the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives determined the fire was set intentionally.
Beane is being held on a $5-million dollar bond.
