A person saying they’ll skip the Republican debate when they’re not being invited to the debate, are two separate things. North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum states that he was skipping the third Republican presidential debate, when in reality, he wasn’t invited to it. There’s a big difference between the two. Not being invited is a sign; a sign of how the campaign is going.
But there’s another sign.
Governor Burgum is using X, formerly known as Twitter, to get his messages out. No doubt he saw how well it worked for Donald Trump and decided it should be his vehicle as well. He’s not the only one doing it either. The five candidates that did qualify and were invited to the most recent debate are all doing the same thing. That allows us the opportunity to look at a form of excellent polling data.
To do that, all we need to do is look at how many people find these candidates interesting enough to follow on social media. The numbers are very interesting too. Why don’t we take a look?
Here are the numbers from largest to smallest amount of followers on Twitter:
Ron DeSantis has 2.2 million followers.
Vivek Ramaswamy has 1.4 million followers.
Nikki Haley has 995.1 thousand followers.
Chris Christie has 896.5 thousand followers.
Tim Scott has 149 thousand followers.
All these numbers are, of course, current from the time of my writing.
The issue Doug Burgum faces, is that he has 13.3 thousand followers.
Many of you are going to say it takes time for people to find Doug. They need to get to know him and see what he stands for. To that, I would counter that Twitter is built for exactly that. Doug has been posting and posting, and no one new seems to care. It’s because he isn’t saying anything interesting, and nothing that separates him from the other candidates. Twitter is free though. It doesn’t cost him the millions he’s spent on advertising. It’s there just as Donald Trump found it.
As I’ve said before, both in this blog and on-air, it’s time for Doug to come home and be Governor.
The numbers show it.
Good riding with you,
Joel
