If you were innocent of a crime that you had been charged with, would you request your trial date to be three years from now? Of course you wouldn’t. But Donald Trump did. In Federal Court, Trump requested that his trial be set for some time in 2026. A time far enough out that he has an opportunity to pardon himself, and a chance at self-forgiveness for crimes committed.
He didn’t get it though.
Judge Tanya Chutkan told the Trump team to get ready for a trial, because it’s set for March 4, 2024. I’m not so naive to think it won’t get pushed back, but she knows their case and she knows how the nation is watching it. Judge Chutkan’s life will never be the same because of the luck, or lack thereof, she got from being on the case. People are already threatening her, and the price she’s paying for this is beyond what most of us would pay.
But she’s willing to pay it.
How many of you believe this trial should wait until 2026? How many of you believe other private citizens would be able to get their trials pushed back three years? The answer is simple: None of us would, and none of us should.
The real reason Donald Trump is in this race is because he’s guilty. He knows that he took every step recommended to him to try to overturn the election, which included violence. The type of violence that literally cost American lives. He knows that there is only one possible way out of this, and it’s to win the election in 2024.
The problem is, he might be wearing orange scrubs before he gets the chance.
Good riding with you,
Joel
