ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Health is recommending certain groups of people stay away from eating fish from two bodies of water near the Twin Cities.
The department recommends that children under age 15, women who are or could become pregnant, and those who are or plan to breastfeed should avoid eating fish from the Ford Dam in St. Paul to Hastings Dam and Lake Rebecca, near Hastings, due to pollutants found in the fish.
Officials say they have found “forever chemicals” in the water and fish in these areas and if eaten long-term can cause exposure. The department says the recommendation doesn’t forbid catch-release fishing, just that consumption is inadvisable.”
