Elderly suspect and victim identified in Otter Tail Co. killing

BIG PINE LAKE, Minn. (KFGO) – An elderly man from rural Perham has been identified by the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office as the suspect in the death of a woman at a home on Big Pine Lake east of Perham.The victim is identified as 77-year-old Jean Mart, also of rural Perham. The suspect, who is in custody, is identified as 79-year-old Paul Mart.

The county SWAT team, deputies and other law enforcement agencies responded to the home shortly after 10:30 a.m. Monday following a call claiming a man had injured a woman at the address. Some area residents were evacuated during the investigation. Jean Mart’s body was located and Paul Mart was arrested.

Agents with Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Perham Police, DNR Conservation Officers and Perham Ambulance were among the agencies responding and assisting.

Formal charges against Paul Mart are expected to be filed in Otter Tail County Court.
