FARGO (KFGO) – Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating what Fargo Police are calling a “critical incident” and is believed to involve three officers and a suspect shot Friday afternoon.
The incident began around 2:45 p.m. near the intersection of 25th Street and 9th Avenue S. where there was a heavy police presence into Friday evening.
Initial reports were that there was a crash at the intersection and one person was suffering from a bloody nose. Shortly after, around a dozen law enforcement and other emergency personnel were on the scene.
Multiple witnesses reported hearing a string of ‘pops’ or ‘bangs.’ Shannon Nichole was driving in the area when the incident took place. She stopped and got out of her vehicle. Seconds later, it was hit by gunfire.
“I saw the traffic stop and as soon as I drove, shots were fired and I saw the cops go down,” Nichole said. “My airbag went off and the bullet went through my driver’s door.”
Nichole said a man grabbed her and told her they needed to get out of the area.
The intersection was closed off with yellow ‘police’ tape and a perimeter was set up from 13th Avenue S. to Main Avenue and several blocks to the east and west. There is no official word from Fargo Police as of Friday evening, but multiple sources are reporting two officers were critically wounded.
There is also an active investigation at the 2800 block of 23rd Avenue South that is believed to be connected to the shooting. Police said there is no threat to the public
