FARGO (KFGO) – Forum Communications’ attempt to purchase FOX affiliate KVRR-TV has fallen through.
In November 2021, Forum Communications and KVRR’s parent company – Red River Broadcasting – agreed to terms of the purchase pending approval from the FCC, and with the option for either company to terminate the deal after 18 months.
According to sources, the FCC was not inclined to grant a waiver to Forum Communications to purchase a second major television affiliate in the Fargo market. They already own WDAY-TV, which is an ABC affiliate.
Because of the FCC’s unwillingness to grant a waiver, and with the 18 months passed, Red River Broadcasting exercised their option to terminate the deal.
