GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO/KNOX) – Grand Forks County has enacted a 90-day moratorium on the siting of wind farms while it reviews current policies and procedures.
The county commission approved the move Tuesday during a special meeting.
County Administrator Tom Ford said if a parent company has foreign investment it will also face scrutiny by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.
The proposed Whiskey Creek wind farm project in western Grand Forks County has multinational ties.
During a meeting in March, Ford told the commission that before the application goes to the Planning and Zoning Board, there needs to be letters of endorsement from the Airport Authority Board, Grand Forks Air Force Base, University of North Dakota Aerospace, and Grand Sky.
In 2022, the commission placed a 90-day moratorium on wind farms until siting requirements were established.
