20 sheep dead, barn a total loss after early morning fire in rural Kindred

WALCOTT, N.D. (KFGO) – A barn in rural Richland County is a complete loss and 20 sheep are dead after an early morning fire.

The Richland County Sheriff said a 911 call came from the Steve Schatzke farm at 5760 County Road 3 in rural Kindred at 4:15 a.m. Walcott Colfax Rural Fire Protection District Chief Festus Mickelson told KFGO News the barn was fully engulfed when crews arrived a short time later.

The Sheriff’s department said the cause of the fire is unknown but the state fire marshal’s office has been contacted to investigate.
