FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney signaled that plans for updating FargoDome will soon be revealed he announced at Thursday’s State of the Cities panel – and it includes adding a convention center.
“Quality of life is one of the top three priorities of the attraction and retention of our residents,” Mahoney said. “We have been waiting for this for a long time. The community’s largest venue and one of the undisputed crown jewels is our FargoDome. A conference center expansion at the FargoDome has been studied and will be proposed as a way to further grow regional economic impact.”
Mahoney said over 3,000 events with 13 million attendees have been held at FargoDome during its 30-year tenure, and the Dome is responsible for between $24-42 million in financial impact for the region every year.
Fargo-Moorhead Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO Charley Johnson said the convention center would be an addition to the existing Dome structure.
Mahoney said the city would roll out architectural renderings and specifics for the Dome’s update in the coming weeks.
