ST. PAUL, Minn. – Republican attorney general candidate Jim Schultz has secured endorsements from 40 county sheriffs across Minnesota, which analysts said is unusual for a group that tends to stay out of the political fray.
Schultz said it represents a broad base of support all around Minnesota.
“Minnesotans are fed up with the status quo,” Schultz said. “They’re fed up with these politicians who want to de-fund the police, who… [have been] attacking police and excusing criminals. We can’t do that, and I’m very proud of these endorsements.”
Democratic Attorney General Keith Ellison’s campaign hasn’t responded.
Clay County Sheriff Mark empting has said he agreed to endorse Schultz because he felt it was the right thing to do.
