FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) — The Fargo Police Department has identified the four officers on paid leave after shooting a man during a standoff in Mapleton on Monday.
The officers are Sergeant Travis Moser, who has been with the department 18 years, Detectives Josh Heller and Ryan Jasper who have both been with the department six years, and Investigator Jordan Korte, a four-year veteran.
All four men are members of the Metro Street Crimes Unit which was called to assist the Cass County Sheriff’s Office secure the area after reports of shots fired Monday morning.
Authorities say 35-year-old Andrew Martinez told negotiators several times that he would be coming out with a firearm, which officers advised against.
When he appeared outside with a rifle, the officers fired their weapons, hitting Martinez. Medical personnel performed life-saving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officers will remain on paid administrative leave while the North Dakota BCI handles the use of force investigation.
