Ever notice the small things in your home or office? The “things” where everyone CLEARLY thinks an item is someone else’s responsibility?
At the KFGO offices, we have a tube of Carmex Medicated Lip Balm that has been abandoned…
Here are the details.
Day One, Monday – I walked into the office at 7:40am. I use the back entrance so that I can slip in and out without much fanfare. At the base of a staircase that leads up to the sales offices, I saw it… I knew immediately from the color of the cap. It was a 0.35oz tube of Carmex. I don’t use Carmex so I knew it was someone else’s. I also knew I wasn’t going to pick it up. Not because I am lazy or grossed out or anything like that. I just wanted to see what would happen. Luckily, a lot happened!
Day Two, Tuesday – Someone moved the tube. When I left work the night before it was still on the floor. In a major traffic area I should also state. So people had to WALK AROUND it all day. Now, it is on a side table next to a flyer for Earth Day. My guess – the cleaning crew picked it up and left it in a highly visible spot looking for someone to claim the orphaned lip balm.
Day Three, Wednesday – No change. I decided to up the ante after a day where there didn’t seem to be any interaction. I put a pen and a quarter next to it.
Day Four, Thursday – Lip balm, no change. Pen, no change. Someone took the quarter. Now things are heating up. CLEARLY someone has taken the time to notice this area. Also, the flyer underneath the lip balm indicating that Friday is Earth Day has been read and then REPLACED under the lip balm. It was facing Northwest yesterday…due south today.
Day Five, Friday – Still there. Decided to blog about it.
I’ll keep you posted.
