FARGO (KFGO) – President Biden has said that he is aiming to announce his nominee to replace retiring Supreme Court justice Stephen Breyer by the end of February. As that self-imposed deadline approaches, speculation is ramping up about who the nominee will be. Minnesota Senator Tina Smith spoke with KFGO News Thursday and said she is taking her job as a part of the process seriously.
“I am confident that President Biden will put forth a highly qualified nominee. I look forward to seeing who she will be, and then it’s my job to fully vet that nominee and look at her record and that’s what I’ll do. This is one of the most important jobs that a president has, these are lifetime appointments. Of course I worry about the Supreme Court very much these days as honestly it seems more and more political,” she said.
The President is said to be considering four candidates for the lifetime appointment. Prior to being elected, Biden promised he would nominate a Black woman for the role.
