Gaber honored for second straight week; Driscoll snags goaltending crown
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UND Athletics)– After earning four out of a possible six points, a pair of North Dakota players were honored by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) on Monday as announced by the league office.
Sophomore Riese Gaber hauled in his second straight NCHC Forward of the Week award while senior Zach Driscoll was crowed the NCHC Goaltender of the Week following their strong performances against No. 18 Omaha.
Gaber was once again dynamic on the weekend, scoring five points on UND’s six goals. The sophomore opened the scoring in both contests to stretch his goal total to 13 on the season, placing him tied for fifth in the league. The Gilbert Plains, Man., native also added a trio of assists, including two in Friday’s 4-1 victory. His primary assist proved to be the game winner in the opener when he setup Mark Senden’s go-ahead tally midway through the middle frame.
On the season, Gaber leads the Fighting Hawks in goals (13), assists (18) and points (31), with the latter ranking fourth in the NCHC and seventh among underclassmen in the nation.
Driscoll was a thorn in Omaha’s side the entire weekend, stopping 26 shots on Friday and 27 on Saturday to finish the weekend with a 1-1-0 mark. The senior posted a .930 save percentage and 1.97 goals against average, allowing just one goal during 5-on-5 play all weekend. Driscoll has surrendered just two goals against at 5-on-5 over his last four appearances. He carries a 2.75 GAA on the season and a .894 save percentage.
North Dakota closes out a six-game homestand this weekend against Colorado College from the Ralph Engelstad Arena.
