Katelynn Berry
SIDNEY, MT (KFGO KEYZ) – Human remains have been discovered near the apartment of a missing woman in Sidney, Montana, across the border from Williston. It is believed that the remains are those of 26-year-old Katelynn Berry, the daughter of assistant Grand Forks County State’s Attorney Carmell Mattison.
Twelve teams of volunteers were looking for the Berry Thursday morning. The large-scale search was suspended subsequent to the discovery.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that human remains were found approximately 1100 feet northeast of Berry’s apartment.
“This morning at approximately 9:20 a.m. one of our volunteer search teams searching within one of our predefined search areas discovered what appear to be human remains,” said Sidney Chief of Police Mark Kraft. “A postmortem examination will be scheduled and conducted by the Montana Medical Examiner’s Office in Billings Montana within the next few days. It is our hope that a positive identification can be made at that time.”
Law enforcement has secured the location in which the remains were found, and are continuing to investigate the scene. Chief Kraft expressed his gratitude for all of the volunteers who aided in the search.
Berry was reported missing by her father, Hank Berry, on December 31 after she had not answered his phone calls or text messages for days. He reported seeing his daughter on the afternoon of December 21, when he brought lunch to her apartment.
