FARGO (KFGO) โ The Fargo City Commission has agreed to accept the offer by Cass County to be the fiscal agent for the construction of a new dispatch center and also approved a recommendation to hire an architectural firm for design services for the project.
Fire Chief Steve Dirksen says a task force made up of the dispatch centerโs board of directors has been working on plans for a new facility for the past three years. The current Red River Regional Dispatch Center at 300 NP Avenue downtown has capacity issues and the location next to railroad tracks is not made to handle a natural disaster like a train derailment:
Dirksen says financing for the project has not yet been determined but itโs hoped construction can start next spring and have it operational by mid-2023.
Dirksen points out that the Red River Regional Dispatch Center is unique as it is the only one of its kind in the country that shares a dispatch center across two states.
