ST. PAUL, Minn. – More than 4,700 people have signed petitions calling for the restoration of the Christopher Columbus statue which used to stand on the Minnesota State Capitol grounds.
Protesters tore the statue down last June after the death of George Floyd. They said Columbus was responsible for Native American genocide. Backers of restoration estimate it would take 3-6 years and about $400,000 to put a new sculpture of Columbus there.
The group American Experiment says protesters can’t be allowed to decide which statues are allowed at historical sites.
