ST. PAUL, MINN. – Republicans are sounding the alarm about a House transportation bill proposal to index Minnesota’s gas tax to construction costs.
Minneapolis Democrat Frank Hornstein says a steep increase in the gas tax is still appropriate and he’s making a huge concession “in an attempt to reach across the aisle.”
Waseca Republican John Petersburg says the plan will hit Minnesotans of every income level, including the poor, at a time when people are still trying to recover from the pandemic.
Hornstein argues much-needed infrastructure projects will create jobs and help jump-start Minnesota’s economy.
