Not the pandemic shortage of toilet paper, clorox wipes, hand sanitizer or even the run on beef, canned goods and flour. The shelves for ammunition and reloading have been short and industry experts say it’s not going to change anytime soon.
The trend began early in 2020 and as early as August—during Olin’s quarterly report (parent company of Winchester Ammunition)—company CEO John Fischer warned investors that, “We expect this elevated level of demand to continue at least until the end of the year.”
The pandemic, election, politics and other factors contribute. Don’t discount the rise in shooting sports as Clay Target leagues and recreational shooting have grown in recent years.
As with any situation where demand has exceeded supply the American response is to see an opportunity and work towards meeting the demand with opportunity.
Vista Outdoor has purchased the ammunition factory in Lonoke, AR—formerly owned by Remington Outdoor—and churning it back toward production at or near full capacity.
