ST. PAUL, Minn. – The number of traffic fatalities is on the rise across Minnesota outpacing where we were at last year at this time.
Preliminary reports show 285 people have lost their lives on Minnesota roads so far in 2020, compared with 263 this time last year. Of those 54 were motorcycle fatalities.
Office of Traffic Safety Director Mike Hanson says over 40-percent of those are a single-vehicle run-off-road type of incidents and there’s also been an uptick in pedestrian fatalities.
Hanson says the big four contributing factors are; lack of wearing a seatbelt, impaired driving, distracted driving, and excessive speed.
