The date is Aug, 20th 1920 and as you comb the newspapers you would have seen these stories:
A Construction worker fell 12 floors and would eventually walk into the state offices to get injury compensation…
Well for those of you who have had a newborn in your families recently, you know that the cost of a stay in the maternity ward can be quite a sum. Look at this huge increase in 1920!
If you are a cop and you visit a prison…HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT!
We’ve all heard about the “Pine Tar” game where it was ruled that K.C.’s George Brett’s homer was disallowed after the umps decided there was to much pine tar on the bat. It eventually was replayed at the point of Brett’s homer.
In 1920 there was also a protest and League President John Heydler said they would replay the last 3 innings of the game. Here’s the ruling:
“Placement of runners following a Phillies pop-up that was not caught; one umpire had ruled a force out, the other an infield fly”
Giants were leading 6-0 at the time…they won the game 13-0 when it was finished Sept. 4th 1920.
And that’s what was happening in the papers 100 years ago, Aug 20th 1920.
