MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) – A Fargo-Moorhead area leader of Black Lives Matter says she was harassed by Moorhead police officers during a recent traffic stop. Police stopped Faith Shields-Dixon on Saturday for speeding near Concordia College.
In a police video obtained through an open records request, a police officer told Shields-Dixon that she was stopped for going 44 mph in a 30 mph zone.
Shields-Dixon claims she was targeted by police because of her affiliation with BLM. After Shields-Dixon is heard telling officers that she planned to file a complaint, one of the officers said “that’s fine ma’am, you go right ahead.”
“You’re playing games, you’re blowing this up. You’re making this racial. Good job ma’am. Good job, ma’am making this racial, good job” a police officer said.
Moorhead Police Chief Shannon Monroe says the police department is in the early stages of the investigation. Monroe says it involves a traffic violation only and that no criminal investigation is ongoing.
