As we get closer to the month of August, let’s turn back the hands of time once again and look at some of the stories that were in newspapers across the county 100 years ago today July 30th 1920.
Newspapers back then used some terms that we think of as very strange today. Once in awhile you’d see something like this headline. “Turns Turtle” meaning “rolled over”.
Babe Ruth was having a fantastic season! He has already smashed his home run record of 29 set the previous year. In 1920 he would hit 54. But at this point of the season he’s crossed the plate 100 times.
They say that history repeats itself. With people still worrying about what happened with the Spanish flu…businesses in Alaska reassured people they took cleanliness seriously.
Of course 1920 was an election year, but….
And we learn new words too…balustrade which is ornamental posts spaced under the railing of a balcony.
Hope you enjoyed our look back at July 30th, 1920. Love to hear any comments at bob.harris@kfgo.com
