ST. PAUL, MINN. – A surge in fishing license sales in Minnesota has led to busy boat landings and more people out on the lakes and rivers. Fishing license sales are up 11-percent over last year and in particular, youth fishing licenses.
The DNR’s Eric Altena said the coronavirus pandemic, has led to many new boaters and anglers and he’s encouraging everyone to be courteous to one another. She said, “With some newer anglers and or newer boaters, I think some of the things we need to think about is being considerate on the ramps. There may be people who don’t have much experience backing their boats in and whatnot. And certainly just making space available and not being impatient.
Altena says for people who don’t have access to a boat, there are plenty of great shoreline and pier fishing opportunities as well. He says the Mississippi River in central Minnesota is a great fishery with plenty of places to cast a line right from shore.
