June 7th is the day millions of music fans are celebrating around the world! They are remembering the birthday of Minnesota’s own Prince Rogers Nelson or known to all as simply “Prince”, who would have been 62 today.
I, Bob Harris, have a cute story about Prince and me!
I’ve only mentioned this story a couple of times, because it didn’t involve me meeting him, but something that happened because of him.
Back in my earlier days in radio, I was receiving VHS tapes of musical shows and concerts that various record companies wanted us to chat about on air. Sometimes an artist would do an interview to promote the tape.
Warner Reprise had put out of series of Frank Sinatra’s old television specials. I called the rep back and started chatting with her that I would be happy
to give a review of the shows.
As we were talking a heard some rumbling, a lot of “ooh’s and aah’s” in the background and then she politely asked if I didn’t mind being put on hold for a few minutes and she would be right back.
She returned to the phone and deeply apologized and said “I’m so sorry for putting you on hold but you’ll never guess who just walked through the office!”
That’s right! It was “PRINCE”!
I told her she could have hung up on me and I would have understood…
Happy Heavenly Birthday Prince….
