FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – The organizer of Saturday’s Fargo march in memory of George Floyd anticipates as many as one-thousand people could turn out.
Anyiwei Maciek said she couldn’t turn a blind eye and stay silent to the injustice of Floyd’s death. What started out as a discussion she had with a friend, the idea of a march caught a lot of attention. She had no thought it would “blow up” as it did once she posted the plan on Facebook.
The Fargo woman says it will be a peaceful protest meant to show the people of Minneapolis that Fargo stands with them in this time of crisis.
Fargo Police say they’ve reached out to event organizers to help support and facilitate a peaceful protest. The department, however, won’t comment on the logistics of how they would do so.
The march will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Island Park, with several speakers and then a march through downtown Fargo. Everyone attending is asked to wear a mask.
