While we still wait for the opening up of more sporting events around the country and world for that matter, we turn back the hands of time to find some stories for you ripped from the newspapers of May 26th, 1920…100 years ago!
From a small newspaper in Madison South Dakota, there’s an interesting filler about the apparel of jockeys
Two stories out of the Washington Evening Star. Babe Ruth is out in right field for the Yankees and clobbers his 7th homer of the season. He will shatter his own record of 29 homers and hit 54 in 1920.
Los Angeles gets set to build a stadium they will later call the “Coliseum” hoping for an Olympic bid. But they weren’t chosen until 1932. They also hosted in 1984 and will again in 2028.
And a little tidbit I found in an Alaskan paper. A football coach resigns and start training his new team at Stanford…BY MAIL!
