1. Ida McKinley, from “Volume 1”, is described by Och as much more ‘low-key’ than other first ladies. Her health issues often kept her away from the public. However, Och describes her as a first lady very involved in her husband’s dealings, as he would leave a door open during his meetings while she sat outside to listen and later discuss.

2. Edith Roosevelt’s White House
, following McKinley, Och explains was much more lively, with young children running around. ‘Life’ was back in the White House. And, Edith is responsible for the blueprint of the White House we still know today, with separate living quarters for the family.
