Daryl Ritchison, the Director of the North Dakota Agricultural Network, joins Amy Iler & Eric Johnson to talk weather.
Want to be a casual weather observer?
You need a rain gauge! And, don’t go out and buy the cheap one! Buy a 4-inch gauge (about $30), they are very accurate and will last you a lifetime.
And, in the winter, you can bring it in and melt down the snow, which is some of the most important data.
Daryl says one climate element in North Dakota that we don’t have enough weather data on is the liquid equivalency of the snow.
Also, CoCoRaHS, The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network, is a place you can report your findings to.
