Intrigued and compelled by the ever-present question, “How can I see more young women aspire to technology cateers?” Bethlehem Gronneberg made the un-natural progression from Software Engineer to Social Entrepreneur to found a social profit organization called
uCodeGirl.
Bethlehem
Gronneberg, who holds an M.S. in Software Engineering and was selected to the prestigious Bush Foundation Leadership Fellow, founded uCodeGirl.
In this podcast: Bethlehem explains her passion for uCodeGirl, what she hopes to inspire in these young girls and how to get your student signed up for camp this summer!
The ‘road blocks for young girls are often things like, “My friends aren’t doing it”, “I’m not good at it” or “I don’t know anyone who is a software engineer”.
“Cautiously Curious”
Bethlehem says the only thing a girl needs to sign up for the camp is curiosity! “No coding experience necessary.”
The uCodeGirl camps are designed to get girls thinking about software development in a fun way, not be demanding or ‘too hard’.
“Nerd: We own the word”
For example: for the young girls, they might create a light-up earring, others may be learning about encryption and how a key fob works.
And, for high schoolers, they combine technology and entrepreneurship. For example, creating a website for an organization in the community.
